Initiatives

SMHEC meets the current needs of its member institutions and works diligently to create opportunities to optimize resources and identify partnerships that are meaningful to our collective missions. The initiatives we have in place are examples of how collaboration provides additional resources for our campuses. From utilities costs to faculty development to sustainability, SMHEC connects the communities located within our districts’ boundaries to help all involved.

Joint Purchasing

SMHEC leverages bulk buying power through the execution of a joint electricity contract and other joint RFPs to significantly reduce the cost of products and services per institution.

Sustainability

SMHEC is focused on Environment Stewardship, Economic Responsibility, and Social Equity across all SMHEC institutions and the communities we serve. Our sustainability programs convene mayors and managers, community members, and students to educate and promote sustainability throughout the region.

Mutual Aid Agreement

SMHEC has executed a Mutual Aid Agreement through its member institutions in which they agree to provide a variety of resources to affected campuses to ensure business continuity in the event of an emergency situation or natural disaster.

Shared Faculty Development

Leveraging the expertise of faculty members across member institutions, SMHEC offers a variety of faculty development opportunities, particularly through the Chief Academic Officers.
